Your life and critical illness policies can also protect your children from the unexpected. No one wants to think about the worse that could happen to their loved ones.
In the unfortunate event that something was to happen to your children, a pay out can support home modification, additional care, travel expenses and more.
As insurers vary between how long they will cover your children for, most will provide cover until they’re into their twenties.
As well as covering a diagnosis, there is additional cover such as ‘Hospitalisation Benefit’ where the insurer will pay £100 per night for every night a child is in hospital from the 7th night. Income that can support your family whilst you take time off to be with your child and may not be getting paid from work.
What can it cover during pregnancy?
Your life or critical illness cover may also have pregnancy cover; complications during pregnancy can lead to the worse and during a devasting time, there can be a financial lifeline whilst you recover physically and emotionally and take the stress away from going back to work before you’re ready to do so.
Complications that may be covered but not limited to:
- Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation (DIC)
- Ectopic Pregnancy
- Hydatidiform Mole
- Placental Abruption
- Eclampsia (excluding pre-eclampsia)
As well as complications that you may be faced during pregnancy, your child could be born with a birth defect. Some insurers will provide a payout for the following conditions, allowing you to take extended time off work or even purchase supporting equipment.
- Clef Lip
- Clef Palate
- Congenital Talipes Equinovarus (Club Foot)
- Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip
Children’s Critical Illness Cover can cover:
- Blindness
- Cancer
- Deafness
- Diabetes (type 1)
- Down’s Syndrome
- Cerebral Palsy
- Accidental Hospitalisation
- Cystic fibrosis
Children’s Life Insurance varies from insurer and some of the listed benefits are specific to one insurer.
